Joyce Irene Nunley Frantz

January 1, 1939 — August 20, 2018

Joyce Irene Nunley Frantz, passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018 at the age of 79, surrounded by her family due to lung complications. She was born January 1, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Proceeded in death by her parents: John Nunley and Ruth Williams Jacketta, her sister Pat (Dick) and her brother Ron. She graduated from West High School in 1957. She was a student body officer and had lots of friends. She attended the U of U. She married Jim Frantz November 4, 1959. Solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple October 19, 1964. Later divorced January 1984 but remained very close friends. They had four children: Jennifer, Jeff (Tanya), Jamie (Raymond), and Jill (James). She was “Nana” to 8 grand-children: Andrew, Jen, Addison, Jalin (Kerby), Mallory, Brandon, Baylee and Jessica, and four great-grand-children: Indie, Era, Levi and Sawyer. She won her battle with breast cancer in 2016. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings and loved singing in the choir. Her church callings included: Sunday School Teacher, YW Counselor, Cub Scout Leader in both ward and stake, Relief Society President, Primary Secretary, and Ward Librarian. She loved having church in her life and attending the temple. Her favorite scripture is Mosiah 24:14. She loved and supported missionary work and provided service to those in need. She worked as a server at Hotel Utah, Doubletree and Wyndham hotels and met many famous people, which she was proud of. She worked as a polling judge during the elections for several years. She absolutely loved going to the movies and spending time with her family.  
She made wonderful birthday, wedding, and “Happy Day” cakes. She was most famous for her memorable chocolate fudge cakes. She loved holidays and for more than 50 years, she made caramel apples for the neighborhood children at Halloween.  
She really loved her life. She was known for her quote “Happy Day”. She loved being a Daughter, Wife, Mother, and Nana. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints missionary fund.  
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Cannon 3rd Ward Meeting House 1301 South 1200 West, Salt Lake City, Utah 84104 with a viewing one-hour prior. Interment to follow at Memorial Redwood.
