Joyce was a character who loved adventure, learning, and people! Born in Denver, December 12th, 1914 and raised in Fargo ND. She graduated from Fargo Central High in 1932. During the Great Depression years completed a combined program at Interstate Business College in Fargo. In 1950 she received her BA from the University of California at Berkeley.
A long time widow, she resided in Salt Lake City and was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Ethel White Sehrt and her foster brother, Richard Randolph.
She is survived by her son, Stanley Gordon Sr. and wife Darcia Mallory-Gordon and their daughter Elizabeth. Joyce ‘s grandchildren (6) and great grandchildren (14): Richard (Staci) of Honolulu, and daughters, Ruby Rolaine and Charlotte Ann; Stanley James Gordon Jr. (Jill) and their children, Thomas, Emily, Samantha, and Jonathan of Bountiful, UT; Jennifer Ann Weltzin (Brad) and their children Ian and Jacquilynn of Taylorsville, UT; David Neill Gordon (Jennifer) and their daughters Talya and Tiffany of Payson, UT and Grandson David Colton (Josie) and their children, Alexandria, Aaron, Andrew and Julia of Layton.
Joyce was an active member of the First Congregational Church as well as a past Matron of Lynds Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and an ex-Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She worked as a staff member at the University of Utah as well as the American Municipal Association. She retired from the University’s Department of Communication in 1980 after 15 years as the Departmental Secretary and Administrative Assistant.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested donations be made to the First Congregational Church’s Memorial Fund or Shriner s’ Hospital c/o Lynds Chapter OES.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, December 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Mountain View Memorial, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights. With a viewing held prior to the service from 1:00-1:45pm. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mountainviewmortuary.com
