Joyce Ellen Hatton Davis passed away from natural causes 9-14-2022 at her son’s home in West Jordan, Utah. She was born on 5-15-1939 to Glen and Pearl Hatton in the Mojave Desert of Red Mountain, California. She graduated with a degree in acting from the Pasadena Playhouse and acted in many stage productions across the United States and Canada. Joyce would later go on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Utah and was employed by the Salt Lake County Library System. She influenced many Utah writers as a teacher of Creative Writing. Joyce was an actress, writer, poet, artist, wife, mother, and grandmother; good at everything she put her determination and talent into. Joyce was awarded Utah Poet of the Year in 1984 by the Utah State Poetry Society and was nominated as Utah Poet Laureate. Joyce treasured not only her extended family in California and Utah, but also her tribe of artists all over the world. Her husband Marvin died in November 2019. She is survived by her sons Linn (Joanna, Rhys and Evan), Lee (Yoshimi, Ashley and Kaito), Chris (Amy, Isaac and Keenan), Jeremy, and Marc (Grace, Simon and Jacob). Joyce was a very unusual, weird, and wonderful person and will be greatly missed.
