Joshua Richard Mikel Nielsen died on Friday, November 25, 2016. He was 15 years old. He sustained internal injuries in a car accident in which the passenger side of the vehicle in which he was riding was t-boned by another vehicle.
Joshua was born April 30, 2001 in Las Vegas, NV. His parents, Dan and Elizabeth Nielsen, adopted him three days later on May 2, 2001. From the moment they set their eyes on his, he instantly became their sunshine boy.
Josh was an active member of the LDS church, actively participating in scouting and priesthood responsibilities. He was scheduled to become an Eagle Scout early next year.
Josh was an amazing son and was an exceptional child growing up. He was always cheerful and smiling and went out of his way to make sure the people around him were cheerful and happy too. His soul was a magnet that drew many to him. Josh took the time to help anyone in need. To him, all lives mattered, from a mangy stray cat to anyone he encountered. Many of his classmates and friends have posted thoughts thanking him for touching their lives.
Josh participated in Karate as a young boy, Junior Jazz Basketball as a preteen and a wrestler at North Layton Junior High. Throughout his sports experiences, he also sang in choirs and participated in theatrical performances. His heart willingly left sports behind to embrace theatre and music.
Josh loved to sing. He began singing in choirs in elementary school. This is where he met Mr. Val Moore, his music teacher from fourth through ninth grade. In junior high, he participated in concert choir and advanced choir. He adored and respected his five-year music teacher, Val Moore, with all his heart. As a sophomore at Northridge High School, Josh performed in the Men’s Choir and was in the chorus for Northridge High School’s production of Fiddler on the Roof. He looked forward to performing at Northridge in the future.
In addition to his current theatrical and musical activities at Northridge High School, he performed in Pirates of Penzance at North Layton Junior High. Thereafter, he joined the Clearfield Community Theatre in a summer production of Music Man. His last performance was in Fiddler on the Roof at Northridge.

Our beautiful sunshine boy died in a terrible accident. They were unable to bring him back. I was honored to be his mom and so privileged to have his extraordinary soul with me. We will miss the light that shined so bright whenever he entered the room. I will cherish my time with him for all eternity.Service Information
