Josephine Matilda Carlisle Brinkerhoff

July 13, 1933 — April 7, 2020

Josephine passed away peacefully on April 7, 2020 surrounded by family. She was born on July 13, 1933 in Brookhaven, Lincoln, MS to Thomas and Mildred Carlisle.
Josephine married her sweetheart, Joseph D. Brinkerhoff on July 18, 1955 in the Manti Temple.
During her life mom lived in 9 other homes and then eventually moved to Granger, Utah for 57 years. The last year of her life, she lived with her son Kenny and RaNae in West Bountiful, Utah.
Mom went to nursing school in Mississippi, was a long-distance telephone operator in Mobile, Alabama, as well as a secretary for the Animal Trap company for many years. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life and served in many church callings. She also worked in the Jordan River Temple baptistry.
She had an incredible knack for numbers and before cell phones were around, she had almost the whole neighborhood and ward phone numbers memorized.
Her passion for the outdoors was evident in all of the flowers she grew around her home. She loved everything green and all of the critters that lived in and around them. She loved music and would sing all of the time. She really liked Neil Diamond, Enya and any of the musicals.
Keeping journals and photo albums of her children/grandchildren was more than a passion for mom. She would spend each Sunday after church writing in all of the Books of Remembrances. She made sure everything was divided equally among everyone. She had a sense of urgency to complete her family’s histories and genealogies.
Being a mom was her whole world. She told us that was her Career. She and Joseph raised 10 children, 1 nephew, 1 niece, her younger teenage sister, an exchange student as well as a number of grandchildren. Her love for her family was shown in many ways; sewing dance costumes, piano, dance, wrestling, football and softball.  Most of us children were in at least 3 of each of these in addition to playing musical instruments. She instilled in all of us the importance of being honest. She will be sorely missed by many.
Mom is survived by 9 children: Kenneth (RaNae), Michael (Tonya), Carol Durrant, Charles (Susan), Mary (Larry), Linda (Vic), Sherry (John), Becky (Kevin) and Jimmy. 55 grandchildren, 116 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Brinkerhoff and daughter, Kathy Despain (Ron).
