Josephine Grun Hoffman Carleton

January 7, 1925 — January 7, 2021

Josephine Grun Hoffman Carleton passed away on her 96th birthday, January 7, 2021. She was born on January 7, 1925, to William John Hoffman and Johanna Marie Grun in Salt Lake City, Utah. The family moved to Denver, Colorado while she was a very young child.
After graduating from high school, she moved to San Francisco, California to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. While there, she met John Grover Carleton and on July 5, 1955, they were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the LDS Church. She happily became a stay-at-home mother to daughters, Suzanne and Ilene.
Her greatest joys were her family and the Church. She and John served an LDS mission to the Dominican Republic. After returning they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to be closer to both of their daughters.
Josephine enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and could always be counted on to help out wherever there was a need.
She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Wayne) Grusendorf, Ilene Carleton, and her adopted daughter, Lisa (Phil) Kaplan. She will be greatly missed.
A viewing will be held in Josephine’s honor on Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM with a graveside service to follow at 11:00 AM, at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123.
Following the State of Utah’s mandate on facial coverings, face masks are required at all public gatherings. Social distancing will be enforced. For those unable to attend the services, Memorial Mortuaries and Cemeteries are offering a livestreaming of the funeral service on Zoom.
