Joseph Charles Romero
March 23, 1930 – January 23, 2025, Joseph Charles Romero, known by most as Joe or Charlie, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in Sandy, Utah. He lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and kindness, earning the admiration and love of many through his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and undeniable charm.
Born on March 23, 1930, in Bells Camp, Colorado, to Cecilia Martinez and Joseph Vicente Romero, Joe was deeply proud of his Hispanic and Italian heritage. On April 6, 1946, he married the love of his life, Consuela "Connie" Dorothy Gonzales, and together they built a beautiful family, raising seven children. He often said, “I provided for my family, but Mama raised them.”
Joe dedicated his career to hard work and service. As a bilingual miner, he served as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking laborers and later tutored Spanish-speaking prisoners in mathematics. He was also a dedicated truck driver, excelling in both long-haul and short-haul driving. Over his 40-year career, he took great pride in his impeccable safety record, completing his journeys without an accident.
Beyond his professional life, Joe found joy in simple pleasures. He had a deep love for cowboy movies and could often be found engrossed in a word search puzzle. His warm and friendly nature made him a man who could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Joe is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie; his sons, Larry and Joseph Jr.; his brothers, Johnny, Jr. and Manuel; and his parents Cecilia and Joseph.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: daughters Laura, Cathy, and Julie, and sons Herman and Rudy. He is also survived by his siblings: sisters Laura, Myra, and Tomasita, and brother Henry. Additionally, Joe leaves behind a large and cherished extended family, including a sister in-law, brother in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will fondly remember his kindness, wisdom, and humor. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Scott, Brandy, Amie Rose, and John Jacob, and his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Corben, Dustin, Semiya, and Luca.
A private interment for immediate family will be held on February 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM MT at 3313 East 7800 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
A celebration of Joe’s life, open to family, friends, and the greater community, will be held in the spring of 2025. Details will be announced.
Joe’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
