Joseph Ray Davies

November 24, 1948 — May 5, 2017

On May 5, 2017 at the age of 68 our beloved father, Joseph Ray Davies, is now at peace resting in his “final frontier”.
Joe was born in Taylorsville, Utah on November 24, 1948 to Wilford Ray and Maurine Ahlberg Davies of Taylorsville, Utah.  He faithfully served as an LDS missionary in Southern Australia in 1968-1970.   He then married Lynda Nichol and together they had four daughters.
Joe honorably served as a police sergeant for the South Salt Lake Police Department for 30 years.  During his career he held many roles, one being the first Officer Friendly in the state of Utah.  Sgt. Davies was fair, served with integrity and was dedicated to his community.  After he retired he served as a Constable in the Summit County area.
There were few places Joe could go without seeing someone he knew and always made friends easily.   He was loyal, usually had the tool you needed to borrow or knew the way to get where you needed to go.  He was thoughtful and was often ready to help before you knew you needed it.  Joe loved the outdoors, especially the years he spent at LDS Girls Camp with his daughters.  He has passed his love of ice cream to his girls as they now expect one of his famous chocolate malts during thunderstorms.  Joe was an avid Star Trek fan, long before it was cool to be one.  He was a wealth of knowledge on random topics, was more of a religious scholar than he realized and had the memory of an elephant; his uncanny wit and offbeat sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joseph is survived by his daughters Sara Evans (Joe), Amanda Jones (Parker), Heather Olsen (Justin) and Marissa Rambadt (Brian); seven grandchildren, former wife Lynda Rasmussen, brothers Charles Davies (Mitsuko), Bruce Davies (Laurie), and Richard Davies; and many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held on Wednesday prior to services from 12 noon to 1:45 P.M. at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
Joe’s family would like to thank his nurse Diana Higgs, Intermountain Home Health and Hospice, McKay Dee Hospital Wound Clinic, Dr. Hall, and Dr. John for their dedicated care, and as Joe would say, “Live long, and prosper.” We love you Dad.
