On July 18, 2017 Joseph Gardner, a devoted husband, our “daddy dearest” and a wonderful grandpa, brother, uncle and friend unexpectedly left this world and is now reunited with his beloved father and mother.
Joe was born to Fred Gardner and Thelma Flanigan in Hurricane, UT on September 11, 1950. He attended Tooele High School, graduating in 1969 and married the love of his life, Ella Dillard, on October 24th 1975. They were later sealed in the LDS Temple for eternity on February 23, 1977.
Joe’s pride and joy was his family. He took great pleasure in spending quality time with his daughters and grandchildren. He had a lifelong love for motorcycles and fast cars. He had beautifully restored a number of classic cars and got the nickname “Hacksaw” from his unorthodox methods of chopping cars in half and welding them back together. He most recently rebuilt a 1955 Chevrolet in to a flawless masterpiece that he would take to car shows as a part of his Wasatch Chevys Limited Club that he loved. He was always working on a project, scheming up an invention or learning a new skill. He absolutely loved traveling with his wife Ella all over the country and hopping in to any adventure his daughters suggested; like riding motorcycle and ATV’s, skydiving, or going up in a hot air balloon.
He was quick to volunteer his time to others and truly loved being of service to his family and friends. He was always smiling, a little goofy and full of light and love. He was a strong, dedicated and brave man of integrity with limitless support for those he loved.
He is survived by his wife Ella, daughters Katrina (David Searle), Jamie (Justin Aagard) and Stephanie, grandchildren Malachi, Isaac, Gabrielle, Oakley, Haylee and Florence and his sisters Donna Stevens and Hulene Nicholson. Preceded in death by brothers Leonard and Bud Wilcox and sisters Faye Turnbaugh and Beverly Mangum.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Kearns 8th Ward. 3730 w. 6200 s., Kearns, UT. Friends and family may attend a viewing prior to services from 10:00 am – noon.
