Joseph Clayton

February 28, 1927 — December 27, 2014

My beloved sweet heart and dance partner Joseph Clairmont Clayton (Clair) returned home to his Father in Heaven on Saturday December 27, 2014 at the age of 87. He was born on February 28, 1927 to Joseph K. Clayton and Margaret E. Sanderson in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Clair loved life and most of all loved to dance with his sweet heart and eternal companion of 36 years Viola.
He loved boating, Water Skiing and the Outdoors. He loved to build things and even built his first home. Clair loved to travel and made friends where ever he went.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Until his illness he worked as a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple with his wife. He also served a mission at the LDS Church Employment Center in Sandy.
Clair was never afraid of work; he worked hard and played even harder. He worked for Mountain Fuel for 26 years then retired and worked building trailers for 25 years.
Clair married Joyce Startup and had six children. Bruce, Brent, Jeff, Wendy, Mary Dawn and Jill. He later divorced Joyce and married the love of his life Viola M. Nicholson Fairbanks on May 7, 1977 and then on May 7, 2005 he took Viola to the temple for time and all eternity. With this marriage he gained four children Martin Fairbanks (Kathy), Jodi Gray (Richard) VaunaLee Peterson and Stacey Fairbanks (Ron). He had 16 Grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son Jeff and grandson Christopher Gray. His parents and two brothers and three sisters.
The family wishes to thank IHC Hospices with three special angles Jeanne, Bonnie and Laura and everyone else there for their love and help. You all made his last few months a little easier.
A viewing will be held Friday January 2, 2015 from 6PM to 8PM at Mountain View Memorial at 3115 East 7800 South. Funeral Services will be Saturday February 3 with a viewing at the church from 10 am to 10:45 am. The funeral will be at 11 am at the Union Park 4th Ward 700 East 7500 South Midvale, Utah 84047.
Good night my sweet husband I love you now and forever. Remember SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME!
