Joseph “Joe” Christopherson, 79, of Layton, passed away Monday morning January 15, 2024, at the Ogden Regional Medical Center due to complications from a severe car accident suffered a year earlier. Joe, the eldest of nine children, was born on September 18, 1944, in San Bernardino, California to the late Robert G. Christopherson and Ruth (Larsen) Dement. He was also predeceased by his second wife, Bonnie (d. 2023) and his first wife, Cheryl (d. 2000).
Joe graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1963. Joe was called to and served faithfully in the Eastern Atlantic States mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After returning home in 1966, Joe attended San Bernardino Valley College. Joe enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968 and served honorably until 1972, including an overseas tour to South Korea. Joe completed his studies at Cal Poly Pomona, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1976. Joe worked in the HVAC industry for several years before becoming a transportation driver for the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Loma Linda, CA, where he retired after 16 years of service.
Joe is survived by his children, Robert Christopherson (Kristy) of Beaumont, CA, Angela Christopherson of Yucaipa, CA, Matthew Christopherson (Aramie) of Chesterfield, VA, and Nathan Christopherson (Erin) of Stansbury Park, UT., as well as 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for the care and support provided by Western Peaks, South Davis Specialty Care, Heritage Park, and Ogden Regional Medical Center.
All who were touched by his life are welcome to gather for a visitation and celebrate Joe's life on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Memorial Lakeview Mortuary & Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful. Following the visitation a graveside service will begin at 11:00 am.
