Jonathan Baker

Jonathan Webb Baker, 50, passed away on April 21, 2014. He was born on February 27, 1964 to Marian Johnson and Merlin Oakey Baker in Salt Lake City. When he was young, he was affectionately known by his family as “Jonathan Webb Baker, Cowboy Teenager” and “JB.” Jonathan graduated from Olympus High School and received a full scholarship to the University of Utah where he graduated with a BA in English. At the time of his death, he was pursuing a masters degree in social work from the University of Utah. He served an LDS mission to Rome, Italy from 1983-84. He married Hollie Child in the Jordan River Temple on September 16, 1987. They had one son, Dylan Paul.
An intelligent, warm-hearted and generous person, Jonathan was actively involved in a number of community causes, particularly NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). He enjoyed organic gardening and was an accomplished musician who played the trombone, piano, and bass guitar. He dearly loved his son and enjoyed telling of his son’s successes and accomplishments.
Jonathan is preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his son, father, and his six siblings, Bruce Baker, Michelle (Kevin) Miller, Allyson Baker, Loring (Paul) Morgan, Shannon (Jerry) Moore and Chris (Makaria) Baker, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at 2080 East Donelson Lane (5165 South), Holladay, Utah. Friends may call at 9:00 a.m. at the church, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 Memory Lane, Holladay.
