Dave? Johnathan Morril Davis, John “Freaking” Davis or “JFD” to his friends, passed away peacefully the morning of July 4th, 2017 at home in Cottonwood Heights UT, after a Life filled with many adventures and wonderful experiences and loving people. He was born on October 5th, 1967 in Murray UT to Donald J Davis & Linda L (Mortensen) Short. He married Cheryl L Knight on December 29th, 1997 after 9 yrs of asking. John graduated from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, UT where he won an award for his Fantasy Art, and attended Green River Community College in Auburn, WA. John had a natural artistic talent and dabbled in may genre’s of Art. He was a comic book and comic strip creator/illustrator, did special effects make-up and mask creations, he did oil painting, airbrushing, clay molding, photography, and settled into a career in Graphic Design/Advertising. He started his career at Royter Snow Design, then McCann Erickson SLC, Thomas Arts, Mozy/EMC, and Net Media Group. At these amazing companies his talents soared and he created some great campaigns for Lagoon, Ken Garff Automotive, Keys to Success, and other creative works for Microsoft, Coca Cola & Stephen’s Chocolate, just to name a few. In 2011 John won the Silver Addy Award from the Utah Advertising Federation for Hyundai Home Lessons TV spots. He leaves behind some great work and great Friends in this community. John loved Halloween, as those who knew him are aware. His decorations were legendary in our neighborhood, something the kids looked forward to each year. He loved hiking, fishing, camping, music, movies, collecting comic books, video gaming, attending Salt Lake Comic Con & FanX events, and everything Horror. John deeply adored his wife Cheryl, and loved his family above all else. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, as he was a kid at heart himself. Everyone who knew him loved him and those just meeting him fell quickly. He had an amazing Soul filled with compassion and he loved unconditionally. John was a wonderful Father to his two step children and loved them as his own. Survived by his wife Cheryl L Davis, daughter Crystal L Olsen (Neil) , son Patrick E McDaniels (Karen), grandchildren Ivy & Madeline, Parents Linda L Short (Rick) and Donald J. Davis (Patsy), brothers Jason (Nigelle), Dominic (Lisa), Eric, and Shane, and grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many loved ones!
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 10th, 2017 at the Memorial Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery 3115 E Bengal Blvd (7800 S) Cottonwood Heights UT 84121. Viewing 1pm-1:45pm, Services & Graveside 2pm-3:30pm followed by a Celebration of Life Reception. Online Condolences may be shared at www.memorialutah.com/obituaries.
