John Michael “Mick” Cabarrus

January 30, 1946 — July 31, 2019

John Michael “Mick” Cabarrus was born on January 30th, 1946 in Baguio, Philippines. Mick passed away on Tuesday, July 31st, 2019 after a 39 year battle with cardiomyopathy. The second child of Joaquin and Mary Cabarrus, he moved to the United States at age four. Mick graduated from Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California and attended the University of Portland and the University of San Francisco. As a boy, he loved to play baseball, go fishing, hunting, and swimming with his brothers in San Anselmo, California. Mick served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. Returning from service, Mick went to work for his father at Continental Mining Supplies, lnc. as a Vice President. While working in San Francisco, he met his lovely wife to be. On February 17th, 1973 he married Sandra Anne Kell, and they moved into their first apartment in Tiburon, California overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Later they moved to San Rafael where their son, Joshua and daughter, Catherine were born at Marin General Hospital. Mick helped close Continental Mining, lnc. when his dad retired in 1983, and he had a successful career as an industrial machinery salesman for several different companies in the Bay Area until his own retirement in 2014. Mick had a passion for flying small fixed wing aircraft after obtaining his private pilot’s license. He loved to snow ski and water ski. Sandy and Mick’s honeymoon was spent skiing in Sun Valley, ldaho. They both loved waterskiing on Lake Berryessa and Lake Almanor in California. He became scuba certified in 1994 with his son and daughter, and did his open water course work in Hawaii while on vacation. Sandy and Mick loved to travel spending time in Europe, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. Mick is survived by his wife, Sandy Cabarrus, their son Josh and his wife Mandy, daughter Casey and her wife Kim, and granddaughters Athena, Zara, and Cora.
On Friday evening from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM a Rosary will be said for Mick at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Draper.
A Memorial Service and Mass will be held at Saint John the Baptist in Draper on Saturday, September 7th at 10:00AM with a reception to immediately follow at the Church.
Inurnment will take place on Monday, September 9th at 10:00 AM at Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah 84065.
