John Kimball

January 13, 1993 — October 2, 2013

1993 ~ 2013John Martin Kimball, our precious and beloved son and brother, died peacefully in the mountains on October 3, 2013 following a long and valiant struggle with depression.John’s artistic talent and brilliant mind became clear at an early age. Although he was a man of few spoken words, he expressed himself masterfully in writing. He surrounded himself in active online discussions sharing thoughts and ideas with many in the community who became his close friends. Art was another way he enjoyed expressing himself. From the impeccable way he dressed to the style and decor of his bedroom and car his artistic eye was always evident. His passion for design and photography brought him hours of enjoyment in frequent explorations of both urban and natural settings. He loved documenting the progress of local building construction, even receiving professional requests to purchase his photographs. From the time he was a toddler, cars became another of his passions. Along with being able to recite any fact about any model of any car, he loved drawing, cleaning, detailing, researching and upgrading them. He mastered his Mini Cooper’s stick shift within days. Over the years he has collected many cherished model cars. He served as a Cantonese-speaking missionary in Sydney, Austrailia where he fell in love with the city and continued friendships with many he met there. Since returning home, John has been a well-liked and valued employee at Macy’s and Shabby Apple. He was also attending the University of Utah studying Design. We feel peace knowing that John’s illness has finally ended so he can move forward without the burden of his depression and anxiety. John is survived by his parents: Richard Kimball and Christie Brixen Kimball; siblings: Maryann Broberg (Jed), Clayton, Steven, Ryan, Eli, Alex and Allison.Funeral services will be held at noon, Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Holladay 4th Ward, 4917 S Viewmont St. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S 900 E, and at the church from 11-12 on Thursday.
