John Delliskave

It comes with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather and Uncle, John Delliskave, aka “Pops”. He passed away peacefully at home in South Jordan, Utah on September 4th, 2019, at the ripe old age of 95 (96).
He was born and raised in Murray, Utah on May 19th, 1924 to the parents of Felix Delliskave and Luica Di Pietro. He was the youngest of six siblings Lena, Ralph, Pilipina, Perena and Eva who all proceeded him in death. He married Hershella Marie Velhotz on August 13th 1941 and later the where sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River temple on April 25th 2003. She also processed him in death. They had six children Felix Lorin Delliskave, Lola Chrie Paletta Mills, John Edward Delliskave, Richard Neal Delliskave (deceased), Renetta Iona Howe and Sharon Dawn Stiebing.
John was drafted in1944 in the U.S Marine Corps leaving behind the family farm, his expectant wife and two children. He was assigned to the L company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. He was one of only eight of his platoon members to survive Iwo Jima. John was there to do his job that had to be done. He loved his country and he loved the American flag and flew it all the time. He was a member of the Marine Corp League detachment 1332, of West Jordan Utah and was the senior member. He was also a member of the VFW for over 30 years, also Post 12087 in South Jordan, Utah and was the post Chaplin. John receive various awards, medals and recognition for his military services for the past 8 years.
After returning from the Marines, he came back to the family farm and drove for Rio Grande Motor Ways for serval years then he went to P.I.E for over 30 years and retired from there. He was a member of the teamsters 40+ years.
After his wife passed in away in 2010, he moved back to Utah to live with his daughter. Pops was always making wood crafts and jewelry, which he was always giving them away. He was a very generous man and was loved by all. He loved to be around his 17 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, he loved them all and enjoyed being around all his family, especially on Sunday dinners.
Viewing will be held on Friday, September 13th, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Memorial Mortuary (5850 South 900 East, Murray Utah)
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 14th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at LDS Stake Center River 10th ward (1570 West 11400 South, South Jordan) with viewing at 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at church prior to the services. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
We express sincere gratitude to Inspiration Home Health & Hospice who gave special, loving care to John and his family during the past year. What to also express a special thank you to his nurse Wendy, Keri the lead Chaplain and Korbin his aide. Death is not a failure of medical science, prayers, or priesthood blessings, but a final healing by a loving Heavenly Father.
