John Dean Spratling

John Dean Spratling age 85 passed away May 3, 2018. He was surrounded by family at his passing. He is now at rest after many years of courageous endurance from the effects of Parkinson Disease.
John is the son of Allan Benjamin Spratling and Agnes Florentine Meyers. He was born on June 24, 1932 in Murray, Utah. He fell in love with Janice Richins while attending Jordan High School and married her in the LDS Temple on April 20, 1953.
Dad loved to make things grow, work the earth, and to be around animals. He was a successful hard-working farmer. He sold his ground in South Jordan and bought a large farm in Idaho. He worked the farm in Idaho as long as he was able to and made many trips there over the years. He loved to be on the farm in Idaho especially at harvest time. He was happy to turn the farm over to his son and grandsons as his father did for him. He enjoyed hunting fishing and travel. He enjoyed being with family and teasing the grandchildren.
He was a quiet gentle man that offered service to many neighbors and strangers. Because of that he made many lifelong friends.
He is survived by a sister Gwen (Bob) Chessworth; Daughters Sherrie (Jeff) Glissmeyer, Sandra (Perry) Jones; a son John Brent (Cathy) Spratling; 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife Janice, parents, and a sister Maureen Beardall.

Funeral services will be on Friday May 11, 2018 at 11:00 am in the South Jordan 6th Ward Chapel, 2556 West 9800 South. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the South Jordan 6th Ward and on Friday from 9:45 – 10:45 am.
Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery in Taylorsville.
