Joe Virgil Martinez was born on June 2, 1938. He was reunited with his soulmate in heaven when he passed peacefully in his sleep on December 15, 2020. His fighting spirit, infectious laughter, and love for life will continue to live on in the hearts and actions of his loved ones.
Joe was a man of strength and determination, shown when he served honorably in the United States Army from 1958 to 1969. He was gifted with several talents, including woodworking and gardening. He was benevolent with his abilities and gifted many woodworking creations to his neighbors, friends, and family. Joe’s garden was his pride and he delighted in sharing the fruits (and vegetables) of his labor. Plants were not only a source of passion, but a form of art in a beautiful way that allowed him to express his love and joy for life. This love of creation and art is passed on to his loved ones.
He is survived by his siblings, Gilbert Martinez, Loretta Suzanne Stock, Leroy Martinez, and Paul Martinez as well as his loving children, Paul (Becky) Martinez, Pam (Pernell) Thomas, and Marcie Martinez (Troy Webb). He loved each of his grandchildren dearly: Joshua (Makell) Thomas, Shantel (Jared) Thomson, Tatianna Martinez (Jacob Ewell), Taiden (Jeanell) Martinez and fur-babies, Niko and Koda. Joe also delighted in the company of his great-grandchildren: MaKaylee, Kylee, Braxton, Tristyn, Linkoln, Rhyann, Leon, and soon-to-be-welcomed, Vallen.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte W. Martinez and his parents, Birgido Virgil and Mary Martinez.
