Joanne “Jo” Niewinski

February 10, 1936 — June 1, 2020

JoAnne Johnson Niewinski, born in Cedar City, Utah on February 10, 1936, passed away in West Valley City, Utah on June 1, 2020 at the age of 84 from causes incident to age. She was raised in the small town of Lynndyl, Utah. She graduated from Delta High School and attended Snow College. She met and married John Frank Niewinski in San Diego, California. Her marriage was later sealed in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
JoAnne was a gifted writer, lyricist, and composer. She penned numerous pieces of music and has written a number of children’s books and poetry. Her happiest hours were often spent at the keyboard of her computer creating beautiful music or excellent prose. She was also a gifted pianist and organist and served for 13 years as the Granger 7th Ward organist.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and felt privileged to accept any calling to serve. She especially enjoyed working with the Relief Society sisters as a Spiritual Living Teacher.
JoAnne worked for many years at Hillsdale Elementary School working as a Title I Aid specialist first with the 1st and 2nd grade students and then specializing in teaching self-esteem, patriotism, safety, and math through music throughout the school. Many students have learned to appreciate beautiful music thanks to “Mrs. Niewinski”.
She maintained a beautiful yard complete with ornamental and fruit trees, flowers, and ground covers.
JoAnne spent many hours for over 40 years serving her friends and neighbors as an Avon representative and enjoyed immensely the chance to help others in that capacity.
She is survived by her husband and their three daughters Debbie (Stephen) Ogilvie, Becky Jo Niewinski, and Wendy Lee and their son Anthony (Thuy) Tran. She is the loving Nanie of Chris May and Paul Ogilvie, Michael, Andrew, and Abram, Melissa and Robbie Snellman, Viviana, Austin, And Aiden Tran, and the great grandmother of Jack and Rocco. She was preceded in death by her parents Curt and Lucile Johnson and her brother George Johnson.
Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
