Our mom, Joann was born in Salt Lake City in 1943, and grew up in both Salt Lake City and Manti. She has five brothers, and attended Manti High School.
As a young woman, when Joann moved out on her own for the first time, she moved to Salt Lake City, lived at the YWCA, and worked in a sewing factory making coats.
Joann loved children. Her most recent job, one she held for 25 years was school bus driver for special needs with Jordan School District.
Joann loved to cook, try new recipes, bottle fresh fruit, and make jams and jellies. She also loved to bake. She made the best whole wheat-molasses bread, ginger-molasses cookies. She always baked the best and funnest birthday cakes.
Holidays were a special time for Joann. She made every holiday magical, especially Christmas. She enjoyed decorating for all the holidays, cooking amazing dinners, and always made the best softest sugar cookies.
As her kids became adults she continued to host Sunday dinners and invite her kids and grandkids over. Afterwards we usually played games like Rummikub, or Qwirkle, and laughed a lot.
Joann enjoyed time with her friends. Sharing dinners at each others homes, or going to plays, musicals, and church programs.
Joann led a life of church service. As a young woman she served a mission for the LDS Church in England. During her life she held many, many different callings. Recently she has served several missions working with the LDS Church Genealogy and Family Search departments. Joann loves genealogy and keeping good family histories and records.
Throughout her life, Joann was generous, and believed strongly in helping others. She was always sharing baked goods, or taking dinner to someone in need, and enjoyed tying quilts or crocheting afghans and sharing those.
Joann passed away peacefully in her sleep and of natural causes on Saturday, 23 February 2019.
Joann was preceded in death by her son Issac Stradley-son, and survived by her children Shawn Stradley-son, Pauline Stradley-daughter, Charlene Tippetts-daughter, Michelle Stradley-daughter, Sara Tippetts-granddaughter, Caleb Tippetts-grandson, Sean Tippetts-son-in-law.
