The tenacious and two-time cancer survivor, JoAnn Butler, age 86, passed away September 27, 2018 due to complications of age. JoAnn was born July 31, 1932 to Leslie Alfred Gordon and Trilva Elizabeth Dunster. Married Robert David Butler, later divorced. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In her early years, JoAnn worked at Trolley Square, which at the time was a bus depot. At the age of 18, she met Robert. Always up for adventure, they went for a joy ride in his DeSoto and were involved in a roll over car accident. JoAnn suffered back and neck injuries but recovered and went on to marry Robert.
She worked hard to support a family of five growing children and often sacrificed her personal needs for her children. The table was never empty and the lights always on. Upon retirement, she tried her hand at farming in Brookside, Utah but didn’t like the distance it created between her family and friends and soon moved back to Sandy. She went back to work part-time up to the age of 80.
JoAnn was an avid quilter with each one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the recipient of at least one quilt. She was active up until her death spending time with her large social circle playing weekly bunco and pinochle games. It was not unusual to call her and not find her home.
She is survived by sons Ronald A. (Sheri), Kirk L., Russell J. (Robyn, deceased), Gordon M. and daughter JoLyne (Clair) Shelton. Sisters Hilloah and Rhico. Grandchildren Brittany, Aurora, Max, Bailey, Hillary, Aubrey, and Abigail. Five great-grandchildren.
Proceeded in death by siblings Maxine, Calvin, Ruth, Mary, James, and Rioh.
