Joan Josephson Condie passed away, in her sleep, from pancreatic cancer on July 6, 2019 at the age of 88. She was born May 23, 1931 in Cherry Creek, Idaho, six miles south of Malad, the third child of six. In her youth, she was active in sports and dance. She taught dance at Sid and Peggy Hanger’s dance studio for ten years, beginning in her teens. Later Peggy and Sid would become “adopted” grandparents for Joan’s own children. As a young woman, she was an avid roller skater at the “Normandie” in Salt Lake City. She enjoyed figure skating competitions on wheels, winning silver and gold medals in pairs and singles. She graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, and afterwards, became an honorable marine Sargent stationed in San Francisco at the end of the Korean Conflict. While in the marines, she was active in competitive sports including swimming, basketball and softball. After leaving the marines, Joan met and married navy war veteran Earl Ellsworth Condie in 1961. Later they were sealed in the Salt Lake City, LDS temple, and had fifty-one years together before Earl’s passing. They adopted two infant children, two years apart. Joan has two grandchildren through her son. She was a dedicated, loving mother and grandmother, who served many years in her church, and was a compassionate friend to her neighbors. Those who knew her, couldn’t help but love her.
Preceded in death by husband Earl Ellsworth Condie, and by parents Nephi (Nate) Josephson, Thelma
Facer, and siblings Robert Josephson, Marcile (Marsh) Munsey, and baby sister Paula Josephson.
She leaves behind son Ted Condie (Stacey) and daughter Sally Burgess (Scott). Also survived by grandchildren Kelsey and Kyle Condie (Sera), and Joan’s younger siblings Martha White, and Rose Ella Robles.
