Joan Glissmeyer

October 1, 1939 — September 25, 2021

Joan Liebelt Glissmeyer, age 81, died on September 25, 2021 in Murray, Utah. She was born October 1, 1939 in Salt Lake City to Gus and Blanche Liebelt.
Joan grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her siblings were Carol, Bruce and Francine (Liebelt). She graduated from Bountiful High School, where she was a Harvest Queen and sang in a girls quartet. She also worked with her mother during high school and was very dependable and had a strong work ethic. She later married Garry Glissmeyer and had two sons, Deric and Devan. She put Garry through school and supported the family by waiting tables for a number of years. They lived in numerous cities including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, and Kansas City. She was a loving and protective mother, who taught her sons many things but notably kindness, love, humor (and sarcasm), bowling and tennis. She loved tennis and was an excellent player, spending many hours playing in tennis leagues and teaching her boys to play. She later married Lynn Sheffield and they created a kitchen remodeling business which she helped run in Murray, Utah. They retired and moved briefly to St. George and then back to Draper where she has lived the past 13 years. She loved being a grandmother and great grandmother. She especially loved the outings, play dates and family events with Amaree, Zuree, Ellee, King and Lucy.
Joan was an avid reader and often read multiple books a week and accordingly was at the library constantly as well as trading books with her friends. She enjoyed sharing meals and time with her sons and well as attending activities of the grandchildren like sporting, musical, and dance events. She loved animals and had a special place in her heart for her kitty, which she is also survived by. Joan had a great sense of humor that was enjoyed by many. She enjoyed church service and working in the temple. She has been there for us with a quiet yet constant support.
Joan is survived by her sons Deric and Devan Glissmeyer, their families and her sister Francine Hoffman and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gus and Blanche Liebelt, her sister Carol Poston, her brother Bruce Liebelt and her husband Lynn Sheffield.
