Jiro Mori

Jiro Mori, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2013 leaving his loving wife, Keiko, at his side. He was born on January 17, 1920 in Hood River, Oregon to Yoshiemon Mori and Nami Ishihara. Jiro and his family were placed in the Minidoka, Idaho internment camp in 1942. Given the choice to enlist, he entered the army at Fort Douglas in Utah and traveled to Europe as a soldier of the Japanese American (Nissei) 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Fox Company. After being honorably discharged from the army, Jiro settled in Salt Lake City to work as a mechanic at Automotive Service. He married Keiko Oki on June 7, 1947 in Ely, Nevada.
Every year around this time, Jiro reminisced about his early days in Oregon. His yearly fall tradition, was to eat his best loved dishes made with Matsutake mushrooms. Up until 2012, every fall he would make little packets from his mushroom bounty and distribute them among his friends. He always enjoyed visiting with friends and loved any excuse to catch up with them over a casual meal.
Jiro loved his family and throughout his life, was not only proud of being a father to his kids but also a father figure to many. Bill Mackin and Eleanore Jorgensen were lovingly thought of as dad’s first kids and the “Blonde side of the family.” Jiro is also survived by his wife, Keiko Oki, children Stephanie Mori-Nakao (Gary); Jerry Mori (Julee); Tom Mori (Klew Lian); Theresa Sueoka (Greg). He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a big extended family.
Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Murray Memorial Mortuary on 9th East or Saturday at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery 10 a.m. visitation 11 a.m. funeral services.
