"Together Again"
Our dear mother, Jewel Audrey Hoerler Kirton, 89, died peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2014. She was born on June 25, 1924, in San Jose, California to Elmer Herman Hoerler and Lucile Strong Hoerler. She grew up in San Jose (now “Silicon Valley”), California and graduated from Santa Clara Union High School in June, 1942. She attended business school following high school.
Jewel met her sweetheart, Joseph William Kirton, at a USO dance in the Bay Area during World War II. They were married on January 20, 1946, following Joe’s discharge from the US Army and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, Joe’s hometown. They built a home in the Millcreek area of Salt Lake, where she resided until her death. We are grateful she was able to be in her home.
Jewelwas a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints, having been baptized in July, 1949 and sealed to her husband in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in September, 1950. She was an active member of the Church for the rest of her life.
Joe and Jewel are the parents of 4 children, two daughters, and two sons: Julia (Clark) Smith; Shirley (Richard) Seamons; David (Vera) Kirton; and Bruce Kirton. They have 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren (with a new great granddaughter due in March). She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and her parents. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all survive. She is also survived by her brother, Donald (Betty) Hoerler and his family of California and her dear friend and companion Glen Ogilvie.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Ridgedale Ward, 3400 South 1100 East at Noon. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive in Holladay, Utah and one hour prior to services at the church. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Holladay Memorial Park.
