Jesse Limb

November 6, 1919 — October 6, 2017

Jesse Limb was born in Argyle (now Randolph), Utah. He was the 4th of eight children to Harry and Sarah Elizabeth Pope Limb. He married Mary Ardella Clawson on October 7, 1948 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He was a “jack of all trades”.
In his youth he worked as a plumber’s helper in his father’s plumbing and pipe-fitting business. He also worked as a farm hand and on hay crews. He worked as a ranch hand and drover of both horses and mules. He became proficient at shodding and breaking horses. In order to feed his family, he grew gardens, raised rabbits and pigs, hunted and fished to supply food for his family. He also drove Doc Reay to his house calls with the buggy in the summer and the sleigh in winter.
Jesse briefly worked as a gandy dancer repairing railroad tracks the year before he joined the United States Army Air Corps in February 1942.
He trained in airplane repair (dope and fabric), as a tail gunner and co-pilot. As sometimes happens in the military, he used none of these skills. He was transferred to the Military Police and shipped to the European Theater. He served as a M.P. in England, France, Belgium and Germany. When the war ended in Europe he was transferred home to train for the Pacific theater. However, the war in the Pacific ended before he was able to serve there.
After the war ended and he was honorably discharged, Jesse returned home to Randolph. He went back to ranching and plumbing to save money for a mission. He was called to the Central North Stake Mission, which included Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and part of Manitoba, Canada. He served from February 1946 until February 1948.
He then turned his thoughts to marriage and sought out Mary Clawson. Mary had left Randolph as a young girl to live with her grandmother in Woods Cross, Utah. At the age of 29, Jesse Limb married Mary Clawson. They had their first 5 children in Woods Cross. From 1948 to around 1958 he farmed, worked as a Mechanic and did auto body and fender work.
Jesse and his family then moved to Salt Lake City. He and his wife had nine more children. He now worked as a Fabricator at Rio Grand Lumber where he wielded steel doors for commercial buildings. He used this skill to wield the doorframes for the new LDS chapel on 225 West 500 North in Salt Lake City. He donated his wielding labor and the Church paid on for the materials. This is how he paid for his portion of the building fund.
Jesse worked as a miller in 1970 in Murray, Utah where they milled and formulated milled products into feed for farm animals. He also worked at Utah Sand and Gravel. This is now the Quarry Bend Walmart Supercenter.
In approximately 1970, Jesse stared at Arrow Industries making PVC pipes. The family made the move to Sandy, Utah. He retired from Arrow Pacific Plastics in 1983. It was a hard job that required a lot of strength and was able to work longer and harder than the younger employees. When he retired he often said that he wished he still worked for them.
After retiring, Jesse did take on a part-time job watering the Sandy City Cemetery.
Jesse loved shrimp, strawberries, and eggs over easy. He would do word search puzzles, and read Louis Lamoir. He loved animals, especially dogs, and enjoyed watching any nature show. He liked watching “Perry Mason”, “Lawrence Welk”, and westerns. He liked the Utah Jazz, and wanted any Utah team to win. However, if BYU was playing against any other Utah team, he wanted BYU to win. He loved playing cards, especially hearts and Rummy. His favorite songs were “Old Shep” and “Church in the Vale”. It goes without saying that he also loved his family.
Jesse was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One church calling that he will be remembered for was in the Scouting Program where he showed great patience in teaching the boys their skills.
