Jerry K. Poulsen, “DOC” died on January 22, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on December 10, 1940, in Magna, Utah, to James Lowe Poulsen and Elsa Victoria (Anderson) Poulsen. He married Judy Jenkins on August 19, 1960, in Salt Lake County, Utah and had two sons, Beau and Todd. He later Married Jerri L. Quigley on April 26, 1975 in Reno, Nevada and had his youngest son Aaron.
Jerry graduated from the University of Utah with a Doctorate of Medicine Degree and served his country in Vietnam as a M.D. While serving in that capacity he stated that he learned the art of emergency surgery in an underground make-shift operating room. He was a very caring doctor and tenderly treated many individuals including many nieces and nephews. Jerry began his practice with his brothers at Granger Medical Clinic, but later embarked out on his own journey to open his private practice in West Valley City, Utah. He stated that he wanted to become an architect, but it didn’t pay as much as a doctor so he went to medical school instead and funded his passion of architecture by becoming a doctor. He built all his own beautiful homes and was always sketching plans for re-modeling other friends’ and family’s homes. He taught his sons to work hard and to be skilled in the beautiful art of carpentry. Jerry was an avid car enthusiast and restored and customized many of his cars. He loved creating new projects and had a very active mind, always thinking of a new venture to start. When he had money he generously shared it with all his family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, Beau, Todd (Carrie), & Aaron (Cory) Poulsen, many beloved grandchildren; His brother John (Shauna) Poulsen, and sisters, Margie (Ron) Williams, & ClaireAnn (Jim) Steveson. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Elsa Poulsen, brothers, Lavere D. Poulsen MD., and James Robert Poulsen M.D.
Jerry was one of a kind and chose to live his mortal experience on his own terms and departed with that same spirit! “No one could hold Doc down!” He lived life to the fullest and will be fondly remembered by all who truly knew him. His family will host a private Celebration of his Life. The family would like to thank the Woodland Care Rehabilitation Facility, and V.A, Medical Center for all the patience and care he received.
