Jerry Leon Carter, II passed away on July 12, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on March 25, 1929 to Jerry Carter I and Eva Bell in Rockford, Illinios. He married Mildren T White on January 14, 1956. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 and served in the Korean War with the 25th Infantry. He became a prisoner of war. Before his release in 1953, Carter was able to convince the Chinese to let him start a band in the prison camp. He said imitating musical instruments with the mouth was the only way they got through the songs. This is when he fell in love with Jazz. Jerry was also the director of Central City Community Action Center that provided a place for low income families to enjoy swimming, activities, and a head start program. More importantly he was a man who loved his family and his close friends. Jerry is survived by his two sons Jerry Carter III and Kary L. Carter; his brother Marion G. Carter; and nieces Pat Carter Jones, Gloria Carter-Tucker, and Alexa Carter; his nephews; 11 grandchildren and a host of great grandkids; his close friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Mildred T Carter; his children Sharon L. Carter, Christy L. Carter, and Randy Scott Carter. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016, 10 AM, with a viewing starting at 8:30 AM, at Redwood Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.Service Information
