Jerry (Jerald) Lynn Wagstaff

March 23, 1942 — January 12, 2022

With sadness we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Jerald Lynn Wagstaff.  With great joy we celebrate his lifetime of love, service, and accomplishments.  Jerry had a genuine compassion for all who crossed his path.  His kind spirit was manifest by a special twinkle in his eye and a warm greeting for all.  He was interested in the wellbeing of others and always glad to see you.  Many have been blessed by his patience, guidance, and thoughtful concern.
Jerry was born in Salt Lake City, March 23, 1942, the first son of Nathan and Thelma Wagstaff.  He spent the years of his childhood in Sugarhouse with happy recollection of days with his beloved grandparents in Holladay.  He graduated from Highland High School and served as a representative of Jesus Christ in the Scotland Edinburgh mission.  Upon his return, Jerry married his sweetheart of 58 years Laura Floy Seeley.  Together they created a family.  Work, service to his church and community, and devotion to his family were the hallmark of his life.
Jerry and Floy made their first home in Granger, Utah and were welcomed with friendship and love in that tightly knit community.  Jerry established his business there with hard work and ingenuity.  Beginning as a one man show, he worked around the clock over many years to grow Holiday Oil into a fixture of the community.  Jerry had a knack for attracting good people and was blessed by many devoted associates within his company who shared their talents and endless loyalty to him in support of building his dreams.  Jerry was insightful and gifted in business, making investments and decisions that solidified his company into a thriving entity that continues to grow today.
Jerry was a founding father of West Valley City and served as a Commissioner in the early years of the city.  His lifelong church service included a multitude of callings with a special love for working with the youth.  He served as Bishop of the Cottonwood 13th ward where he resided for the past 30 years and enjoyed the friendship of good neighbors.
As he approached his middle years Jerry realized the need for a bit more fun in his life and took up boating.  He was determined to master waterskiing and enjoyed it for many years.  Endless happy memories were created with family and friends at the lake.  Outings to the family cabin in the mountains and visits to St. George became a fond pastime in recent years.
Jerry and Floy answered a call to missionary service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presiding over the California San Francisco Mission from 2003-2006.  They found another community they loved among the young elder and sister missionaries from every corner of the earth and the senior couples that they treasured.
Jerry is survived by his wife Floy, children Scott (Tracy) Wagstaff, Wendy (Mark) Spencer, Amy (Blain) Boelter, Mike (Carrie) Wagstaff, Amber (Matt) Ferre and Heather (Kendrick) Cantrell.  He is “Grandpa Jerry” to 23 adoring grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sisters Judy Sahm and Marlene Bowers, and brother Steven (Terri) Wagstaff.  Preceded in death by his parents Nathan and Thelma Wagstaff.
A viewing and funeral will be held at the Cottonwood 13th Ward Chapel 1830 E. 6400 So. Murray, UT.    Viewing Sunday January 16, 2022 from 6-8 pm and from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the service.  Funeral service will be January 17, 2022 11:00 am.
