Jerry Gene Gibson

July 2, 1929 — October 9, 2021

Jerry Gene Gibson passed away on October 9, 2021 in Salt Lake City Utah at the age of 92.  He died at home from natural causes.  Jerry was born July 2, 1929 in Spokane Washington, the son of Velma Gibson.   She died soon after Jerry’s birth and he was raise as an orphan in a state institution.  Jerry overcame a challenging  childhood to become a strong, passionate, and caring man.

One of the workers at the institution where Jerry was raised took him home on weekends and introduced him to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was baptized as a teenager and had an unfailing testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Among his numerous Church callings, being a ward mission leader was one of his favorites.

He is survived by his wife Rosina Clasina Gibson.  They were married September 6, 1969 and shared 53 years of marriage together.

He had two sons from a previous marriage, who both passed away as young children.  He and Rosie were not able to have any more children.  They spent their time in dedicated Church service.

Jerry served in the United States Air Force for 20 years before retiring.  He served in both Korea and Vietnam.  He was in the military police and the highlight of his service was training guard dogs and their handlers.

Jerry lived in the Glendale area where he was often seen walking his beloved dog Princess.

Jerry would like to thank those who took such good care of him in his final days.  The staff of Active Home Health and Hospice, especially his nurse Nikki Rodrigue and the staff of L&EA Affordable Care; Salome Manusete, Sisilia Fifita, and Pua Fafita.   They all became good friends of Jerry and cared for him deeply.  Jerry had a pleasant and positive outlook on life that was contagious.  He often spoke about how blessed he was. Those who spent time with Jerry will always remember his big smile and his “thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Memorial services will be held for Jerry and his sweet wife Rosie when she once again joins him to continue their eternal journey.  Jerry will be interred with military honors at Memorial Redwood.
