Our beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, Jerri Russell Matlock passed on February 15, 2025 in Payson, Utah. He was born on June 4, 1946 in Napa, Idaho to Warren Oliver Matlock and Dorothy Faye Taber.
He spent his youth racing bicycles, and playing football. He also learned to play the Clarinet and Saxophone while participating in band during school. Upon graduating from Enumclaw High School in June 1965, He joined the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed First in San Diego & Camp Pendleton California, Second, Cherry Point North Carolina, Third: Yuma Arizona, before being deployed to Vietnam in April 1968, and Finally Keflavík, Iceland upon his return from Vietnam. He was awarded numerous medals to include a Bronze Star Medal with Valor and three Purple Hearts. He was medically discharged on December 10, 1971.
He married Gwen Eileen Caldwell on June 24, 1972 in Alderwood Manor, Washington. They were sealed in the Seattle, Washington Temple on January 24, 1981. They welcomed six children into their family. They would later divorce in November 1995.
After moving to Utah in 1995, He would meet and later marry Freshteh Bassir on July 1, 2000 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Once they had both retired, they enjoy many vacations to visiting family, vacations to Hawaii visiting the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, and Kauai. Cruises to numerous Caribbean Islands, Mexico, and Canada.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leader, Ward Clerk, and Stake Clerk. He was also active in the Scouting Program for several years serving as Troop Committee Chair, Troop Committee member, and Assistant Scoutmaster. He received the “On my Honor” award for adults and was a member of the “Order of the Arrow.”
He is survived by his four sons: Warren (Kimberly) Matlock of Orem, Utah, Theodore Matlock of Snohomish, WA, George Matlock of Woodinville, WA and Jon Matlock of Orem Utah. His two daughters: Seanea (Darren) Helland of Clinton, WA and Sunna (Sean) Donald of Lake Stevens, WA. His ten Grandchildren: Micheal Bricker, Emily Bricker, Angela Reed, Owen Reed, Sklar Reed, Elizabeth Matlock, Kjerstin Matlock, Adriana Matlock, Andrew Huss, and James Matlock. His 2 Great grandchildren: Kaiden Bricker and Willow Bricker. He is also survived by his Brother Richard L. Taylor Jr., his Sisters Tanya Dunlap, Mickie Matlock, and Patricia Hollis, and his many nieces, nephews, and his beloved late wife’s family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Freshteh Bassir, His paternal grandparents Coy A. Matlock & Helen B. Oliver, His Maternal Grandparents Albert R. Taber and Estella M. Head. His Parents, and Step Parents. His Brothers: Danny Hollis and Mark Taylor. His Sisters: Victoria Moe, Sylvia Tripp and Amelia Christman. As well as His brother-in-law Daniel Christman.
His funeral services will be on Thursday February 20, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Orem 5th Ward Chapel 50 S 800 E Orem, UT 84057. His Interment will at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery at 3115 E 7800 S Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121
