Jerri Doris Victoria Johnson Olson

April 19, 2025 — March 21, 2016

Jerri D. Olson was surrounded by her loved ones as she passed away peacefully on March 21, 2016 at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT at the age of 90 years old.
Jerri was born on April 19, 1925 in Salt Lake City to Irvin and Edith Johnson. Jerri grew up in Sugarhouse and attended South High School. During this time, she met the love of her life, Marshall P. Olson, and they were married on May 15, 1942.
Marsh was in the U.S. Army so they lived in Texas as young newlyweds but moved back to Salt Lake City and built their first home on Lake Street. While living there, Marsh and Jerri welcomed all 4 of their children and then in 1961, they moved to Murray Utah where they raised their children and lived out the remainder of their lives.
Jerri worked at various jobs including waitressing at Fort Douglas Country Club and as a clerk for JC Penny. She enjoyed being social and making friendships but her true love was being with her family. She was a kind and very patient mother to her children and she taught them many life skills. She encouraged them to follow their dreams and to set goals and be the best they could be. There was always a genuine feeling of love in their home. Her door was always open to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone else who came along.
Jerri was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and animal lover. She loved to laugh and play games and spent her time enjoying life. She had an infectious giggle and if you could get her laughing hard enough, you would hear the famous “snort.”
Jerri is survived by her sister, Beverly Johnson Madsen (Robert), son Marshall Scott Olson, daughter Susan Olson Ritter, son Chad Ray Olson, son Dave Dale Olson (Sharyl), grandson Michael Chad Ritter, granddaughter Tawni Olson Smith (Jason), and grandsons Kory Dave Olson and Jared Gustav Olson, and her great-granddaughters Stella Avery Smith, Saylor Jasmine Smith, Sloane Palmer Smith, and her great-grandson Romney Dale Smith. Preceeded in death by her husband Marshall Poulton Olson and her brother Raymond Johnson (Betty).
A viewing will be held at 10:00am and a graveside service will be at 11:00am on Monday March 28, 2016 at Mountain View Memorial 3115 East 7800 South – Salt Lake City, UT 84121. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of this incredible woman.
The family would like to thank Jerri’s son, Chad Olson, for the countless hours of care and dedication he has given as he took care of Jerri over the last 16 years. He was so pure in heart and so selfless and we all consider it a blessing that he was able to do that for his mom and for the rest of our family. We always knew that she was in the very best care because of him.
Thank you to the staff at St. Mark’s Hospital for being there during her last days and hours on this earth. We appreciate the effort you made to make Jerri as comfortable as possible while she was in your care.
