Jeff Dee Gentry, Jr.

September 15, 1958 — March 20, 2016

There are not enough words to describe what we lost this Sunday. Dreamer, Geologist, miner, engineer, car enthusiast, God loving Christian, expert skier, motorcycle rider, gear head, collector, designer, artist, risk taker, free spirit, brother, uncle, boss, bread fanatic, martial artist, animal aficionado, ice tea drinker, problem solver, wild man, lover and loyal friend.
Jeff D. Gentry, Jr. always had a kind word, helping hand and open heart. He gave until it hurt and taught his community what the true meaning of brotherhood and love were. His kindness, generosity, optimism and energetic attitude were contagious and his warm hugs will be deeply missed.
Jeff was born on September 15, 1958 in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1984 with degrees in Geology and Geological Engineering. He was an entrepreneur and an oil, gas and mining innovator. Jeff was an avid collector of vintage race cars who appreciated all motorsports. He was a member of the Alta Club, Mensa Club and numerous auto clubs.  Jeff was also a passionate skier. His love affair with skiing began over 40 years ago when he took his first class at Murray Park and continued at Snowbird, where with the Bass family, he helped create a community of family and friends.
On Sunday March 20, 2016, Jeff died doing what he loved, skiing, and has now been reunited with his mother and father in heaven. Jeff will continue to live on through the lives of others by his wish to be an organ donor. He is survived by his sister, Marcy Beach, extended family, his honored friend and assistant Leisa Gutierrez and many beloved friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jeff and Johnne Gentry and his beloved pets including Ulysses and Marilyn.
Jeff’s life will be celebrated with a viewing on Thursday, March 24th from 6-8 pm, and one hour prior to the funeral, Friday the 25th at 3 pm.  Both will be held at Memorial Murray Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E. Murray, UT.  A graveside service will also take place next week in Dallas at Sparkman Hillcrest. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been set up to teach under privileged children how to ski.  Donations can be made at Brighton Bank under the Jeff Gentry Free Bird Fund. Condolences may be left at www.MemorialUtah.com.
