Jeannette Ida (Jongkees) Koning passed away peacefully in her home on June 17th, 2022 at the age of 93.
Jeannette was born to Arie Dirk Jongkees and Jacomina De Jonge Jongkees on April 9th, 1929. She was born in the City of Surabaya on the Island of Java, Indonesia where her father was stationed as an officer in the Dutch Navy. At age 4, with her parents and three siblings, she returned to the Netherlands and lived there until immigrating to the United States at the age of 23. After one year in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeannette was sent back to the Netherlands to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She returned to the Salt Lake area after completing her mission. On November 24th, 1961 at the age of 32, Jeannette married John William Koning in Rosemead, California and was later sealed for time and all eternity in the Laie Hawaii Temple. They later had two children Nancy and John.
Jeannette was an accomplished pianist and loved to sing. She frequently shared her musical talents playing the organ and piano for church callings, as well as singing with the Salt Lake Oratorio Society and later with the Southern Utah Heritage Choir. One of her greatest joys was singing Handel’s “Messiah” with the choir in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Jeannette was a wonderful artist and loved to embroider and crochet. She also had an amazing talent for languages. Jeannette started high school at the age of 12 in the Netherlands during World War ll. Her high school education was often held in homes due to the war, but included instruction in Greek and Latin as well as English, French, German and Italian. This talent for language was utilized as she translated English to Dutch for her church’s General Conference sessions. Jeannette enjoyed scenic drives, traveling with her husband John, and attending family functions from recitals to family dinners. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Jeannette served three missions including the Netherlands as a youth, and a Family History Mission with her husband John. As a widow and at the age of 80, she served as a senior missionary in Tulsa Oklahoma. Jeannette would want everyone to know of her deep testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and His atonement. She was loved by all and her beautiful smile and mild demeanor will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy K. Dixon (Dave) and her son John P. Koning (Tiffany) as well as 6 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband John, as well as her siblings and many other family and dear friends whom we know are celebrating their joyous reunion.
