Jeanne Atwood

March 29, 1930 — March 28, 2020

On March 28, 2020, one day shy of her 90th birthday, Jeanne Atwood returned to her heavenly father and was reunited with her eternal family. Dorothy “Jeanne” Webb was born March 29, 1930 to Howard Lars Webb and Dorotha Underwood in the mining town of Mammoth, Utah. She was the oldest of four children having one brother, Howard, and two half-sisters, Karen and Rose Ann. After losing her father to a mining accident at the age of 2 years old, and later her mother to a heart condition when she was 14 years old, her and her brother went on to live with their father’s parents in Spanish Fork, Utah. She was a very good student in school and was involved with Pep Team, Girls Glee, Chorus, and Seminary, and in 1948 she graduated from Spanish Fork High School.

In 1950, while visiting an aunt in Tucson, Arizona, Jeanne met her first husband, Richard Harold Johnson who was stationed there with the Air Force. For two years they wrote letters to each other and eventually married on July 28, 1952 in Ocean Beach, California. Together they had six children: Paul, Karen, Allison, Jeffrey, Howard, and Kelly, and they made their home in Salt Lake City before divorcing in 1978.

She met her second husband, Glen Atwood in Sandy, Utah while attending church and taking classes at the senior citizen’s center. They eventually married in the Jordan River Temple on October 10, 1992 and were later sealed for time and all eternity. Jeanne and Glen retired in St. George, Utah and had a wonderful life together before his death in 2009. They traveled, served as missionaries for the LDS Church, and spent much of their time volunteering in the community.

Jeanne was a doting mother and grandmother, never forgetting to send a birthday card or a handwritten letter with her perfect penmanship. She willingly made sacrifices throughout her life to ensure her family had everything they needed.  Jeanne will always be remembered for her stories, her sweet tooth, the love she had for her dogs Perky and later Snuggles, as well as the strong testimony she had in the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Church of Latter Day Saints.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, her sister Rose Ann, her husbands Glen and Richard, and her sons Paul and Howard. She is survived by her brother Howard (Katherine) Webb, her sister Karen (Fred) Edwards, her children Karen (Eldon) Greenwood, Allison Rose, Jeffrey Johnson, Kelly (Isabel) Johnson, and her 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
