Jean Mae Jackson

May 22, 1924 — January 16, 2020

Jean passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2020 at 95 years old. She was born May 22, 1924 in Grimsby, England to Harry and Edna Mae Garnett. She was one of five children. Jean was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was eight years old. At the age of twenty-three, she left England to immigrate to the United States where she married her eternal companion Maynard C. Jackson. They were married on April 23, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Jean and Maynard were parents to six children. Maynard was a member of the U.S. Navy which took their family from Denver, Colorado to Virginia. After finishing his service, they returned to Denver where they raised their children. A change of employment took them to Idaho Falls, Idaho and then to Taylorsville, Utah where she lived the remaining years of her life.
Jean had a love for life, her family, her dog Belle, knitting, and the Utah Jazz. Jean loved knitting beautiful blankets and infant clothing for her family and friends. She was often found, even in the last days of her life, knitting and supporting her favorite team. Jean served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorite was working with the youth. Jean was very outgoing and the hero of many Black Friday shopping sprees. She loved to attend her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events. She loved supporting her family. She was always a source of encouragement and an influence for good.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, siblings (Harry, Peter, Vera and Leslie), husband Maynard, son David, granddaughter Ashley Curtis, and great grandson Logan Burton.
Jean is survived by her children: Diane (Alan) Butterfield, Maynard (LuDean) Jackson, Marla (Clyde) Burton, Lori (Gary) Hamm, and Kristi (Jeff) Curtis. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
