Jean H. Mcmillen

June 17, 1932 — September 4, 2016

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, Jean H. McMillen, age 84, passed away on September 4th, 2016 at her home surrounded by family.  She was born in Salt Lake City, to Henry and Relia Henstrom on June 17th, 1932. She graduated from East High School on June 7th, 1951.  She married Don Lee McMillen on July 13th, 1956. Together they made their home in Holladay, UT where she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Jean was a vivacious and loving soul.  Her caring heart touched everyone she met.  Her hugs were unforgettable and her laughter was contagious.  She knew how to make you feel better about life’s ups and downs, creating instant rhymes to make you laugh.  She was a member of the LDS Church.  Her unsurmountable love for our Heavenly Father was evident with how she lived her life.  She was a beautiful example to all her family.
During her younger years she spent time with her Aunt Rose in Seattle, WA.  After graduating from high school, she moved to Los Angeles working at the Egyptian Theatre as an usher, for many premiers, and Hotel Statler, as an elevator operator, where she caught the eye of Gary Cooper, and surely many others.  She then moved back to Salt Lake City where she worked as the elevator operator at Hotel Utah.  She competed in Centennial Queen Pageant sponsored by Hotel Utah.  She later met her would-be husband, Don.
Her career path began from her graduation from Darrel and Joseph School of Beauty Culture on June 23rd, 1955.  Her beauty career took her further to wig styling where she settled for many years working at Clara’s Wigs and Carol’s Wig Shop. Later going on to working at Little America Hotel Gift Shops, where she retired.
She spent her last couple years creating gorgeous pictures of fall leaves from her own backyard. Making these pictures and giving them to family and friends, was a joy to her. Her love for baking was tremendous. No one can forget her delicious divinity and fruit cake during the holidays.
Jean is survived by her three children; Steve, Don, and Tonya McMillen; and her brother, Richard Henstrom; along with her nine grandchildren; Mikele Kovach, Lacey Evers (Luke), Jeremy McMillen (Erica), Cody McMillen (Jessica), Candis Smith (Jessy), Shayla Ohrn, Justin Ohrn, Karissa Ohrn (Joshua), Randee Tamboc; her eight great-grandchildren, her loving nieces, Shawndra Blyle, Bobbie Blyle, Brandy Doyle, and Shawdene Luke and many other nieces and nephews.
Don preceded her in death on October 4th, 1984. Also preceding her in death is her sister, Ruth Larsen (McMillan), her mother, Relia Henstrom (Wyss), her step-father, Frank Wyss, and her Aunt, Rose Reese.
