Jay Bertagnole

August 12, 1937 — November 11, 2015

On November 11th at 5 p.m. our lives forever changed when our kind and gentle husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Jay was a man with a heart of gold and had a strong passion for ranching. He was a sheep rancher with his father, brothers and son in East Canyon. They also started East Canyon Resort many years ago. Later on, Jay ran East Canyon Outfitters with his son Randy. His love for family, the mountains, his dogs, horses and sheep were strong and he never let that love go.
He is survived by his wife Karen Hedberg Bertagnole, who was the love of his life for 58 years; his sons, Randy (Sharon) and Shawn (Theresa); grandchildren: Angela (Steve) Bridge, Kristin (Morgan) Evans, Jeremy (Ashley) Bertagnole, Madeleine Bertagnole; great-grandchildren McKenzi (Derik), Jordan, Alexis, Juleus, Kollin, Valiree, Dakota, Angelo; one great great-grandson, Dustin; and one brother, Harold. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to give a big thanks to the wonderful Dr. Evan Moore and staff in the ICU at St. Marks Hospital. We would not have made it through all of this without your amazing spirits.
Jay had the biggest heart and was always willing to help anyone; he will be missed by so many people. “Happy trails to you until we meet again.” The depth of such a wonder man’s life cannot be captured in an obituary, therefore there will be a celebration of Jay’s life held on Saturday, November 21st from 1-3 p.m. at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E., Murray, UT.
