With broken hearts and disbelief, we announce the passing of Pitmaster Jason John Swayne. After 3 operations and prior illnesses, Jason departed from the arms of his beloved wife, Michelle Freeman Swayne.
During his lifetime, he was known as owner of Smokin’ Hot BBQ & Catering, Pitmaster, Police Officer, Appraiser, Skydiver, Golfer, Biker, Ice Hockey Star, and TV Host. He attained his A.S. degree in Criminal Justice, just short of his B.S. degree.
He recently wrapped up 2 months of filming in several states for his TV series, “Where There’s Smoke”. This after 3 weeks in Hollywood CA catering for the production staff, cast, and crew of the motion picture entitled, “Dead Man Rising”. And only Jason would find himself cast as an extra in the movie, playing a prisoner.
Jason leaves behind his wife Michelle, mom Lois and dad Dick, sister Louise Brynildson (Jim), brother Steve (Diane) Swayne, sister-in-law Teresa Swayne, parents-in-law Carol Kayl Freeman and Will Freeman, sisters-in-law Stephanie Freeman and Mallory Freeman, nephew Kyle Swayne, and nieces Kayla Swayne and Jennifer Specht (Nick). He was predeceased by his older brother Darren R. Swayne and by his beloved dog Molson.
Jason had a huge, huge heart, unbelievable sense of humor, and a magnetic personality. He was our light. Definitely one of a kind. We will love and miss him for eternity.
No service will be held at this time, but a Celebration of Jason’s Life will be held at a later date. He will be interred beside his brother in a beautiful fountain at Mountain View Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be sent to the cemetery site as well as the Salt Lake Tribune.
