Jared Fischer

July 19, 1936 — January 6, 2022

Jared Fischer, 85, returned to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from the effects of a very aggressive fast growing cancer.
Jared was born to the late Emil Karl Franz Fischer and Charlotte Louise Baade Fischer in Berlin, Germany on July 19, 1936. Some of his earliest memories were of the challenges and difficulties of living in a country at war. He was raised on a farm and learned of hard work at an early age.
His family escaped communist East Germany when he was a teen and eventually emigrated to the United States. He had learned some English prior to departing Germany, which enabled him to communicate and land his first job at the Mayflower Café in Salt Lake City as a dishwasher. This job lasted for a couple of years until he’d become frustrated with the low wages and less than favorable work conditions. He quit his job by throwing the dishes against the wall and walking out of the café for good.
Jared met his sweetheart Astrid at a soccer dance. They were both standing by the wall while their friends were dancing. She asked him to dance, and the rest is history.
Shortly after Jared and Astrid married, Jared was drafted into the United States Army. It wasn’t long after the draft that Jared was stationed in Germany, where he was able to assist his superiors in navigating some sticky situations with his ability to translate for them.
He met his sweetheart at the ship port some time after his arrival back in Germany. He recognized her as she was jumping up and down near the railing on the ship. Their first child made his arrival while they were stationed in Germany.
After his service in the armed forces, Jared worked for a time doing automotive repairs. After which he worked the remainder of his career at Kennecott Copper Mine driving a house-sized dump truck.
Jared had learned and refined his skills at auto body repairs in Germany. He was able to make some extra money on the side by doing repairs as well as help family and friends when they needed his expertise.
Throughout his life Jared learned to love and serve the Lord. After his retirement he served for several years in the Jordan River Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the temple and enjoyed sharing some of his experiences from serving there and the things that he learned.
Jared had experienced many things in his life and was always willing to talk, share comments, humor and his lively view on life. He will be missed by many.
Jared has been preceded in death by his wife, Astrid Fischer, his parents, son Melvin Fischer (Kathie), grandson Jaryd Fischer, and great-grandson Jake Fischer. He is survived by his son Milton, daughters Monika Lockridge (David), and Marilyn Fischer, 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren with two on the way and expecting one great-great grandchild.
