Janis Pryor

Janis Smith Pryor, cherished wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother departed peacefully on January 26, 2022. Janis was born on March 19,1943 in Phoenix, AZ to Andrew Outzen and Edna Richards Smith. She married Jay Floyd Pryor on June 11, 1965, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They lived in Flagstaff, AZ where she graduated from Northern Arizona University, and later continued her education to earn a master’s degree in Music Theory from the University of Utah. They raised their 5 children in Sandy, Utah where Janis brought the love and joy of music into the home. Singing, playing violin, and her homemade bread were a few of the favorite memories of her children growing up. She made a career in music education teaching in many elementary schools as well as giving lessons to family and neighborhood kids.  In her free time, she enjoyed playing in various symphonies and quartets in the Salt Lake area. Janis served in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, playing the organ was one of her favorites.
She is survived by her husband Jay; her children Bryan (Shirley), Marla (Tim), Renae (Chad), Allen (Melanie) and Deborah; 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, her sisters Barbara (Charles), Cherilyn (Merrill), and brother Larry (deceased)(Caroline).
