Janice Reid Robbins

June 18, 1929 — August 8, 2017

Janice Reid Robbins, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of August 8, 2017.
She was born in Salt Lake City on June 18th, 1929, the youngest child of Melvin Hughes and Constance Gleerup Reid.  She grew up in South Salt Lake, graduating with honors from Granite High School.  Her memories of growing up at the end of the depression and during the World War II era instilled a love of country, community and a strong desire to serve others.
Janice attended Utah State University, graduating in 1951, with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry.  She then chose to pursue a career in Medical Technology, and finished a Masters Degree at the University of Utah in Hematology.  She met Joseph LaMar Robbins during this time, and they were married on April 26th, 1952.  Jan and LaMar purchased a home in Sugarhouse where they raised five children.   Their home became a haven to their children and later to anyone who needed a place to stay, whether they be human, canine, or feline.
She continued working and gaining more education.  She was able to help others with her medical knowledge and had the opportunity to work in many diverse labs and clinics, as well as teach at BYU, finishing up her long career conducting chemical research at ASARCO.
Janice had a zest for living and was loved by family and friends because she was so vivacious.  She was friendly, charming, cheerful, witty, and could always make people smile brightening their day.
She was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and an active member of the LDS church.  She willingly served on both the ward and stake level, but Relief Society Homemaking was her favorite.
Janice is survived by her five children: Jody (Debbie), Joan (Dave) Flandro, Myra, Adam, and Stewart (Buffy), as well as her 13 grandchildren,  21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, all of whom loved her deeply.  She was preceded in death by her parents,  husband J. LaMar, siblings Bud and Donna, and grandson Harrison.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 12 at noon in the Edgehill Chapel located at 1735 S. and 1500 E. in Salt Lake. A viewing will be held at the same location prior to the funeral from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.  In honor of Jan’s generous and caring nature, the family asks that you donate to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
