Janette Garside Witsman

October 30, 1951 — May 29, 2021

Our dear, sweet mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister Janette Garside Witsman returned home to her Father in Heaven on May 29, 2021, after a valiant 3 year battle with Cancer. She was born to Heber and Elaine Garside on October 30, 1951 in Salt Lake City. Jan attended Granger High School and graduated in 1970. She later married her eternal companion, William Ray Witsman, and together were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple, on March 27, 1981.

Jan was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and had an unshakeable testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel. She had a profound respect and love for the written word. Often she was found sitting on her loveseat in her room, reading her scriptures or various other books on gospel topics. She also loved to listen to conference talks and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Mom had a sharp eye and and brilliant mind for interior decorating. It wasn’t just a hobby for her, it was a passion. Her home was her canvas, and she would turn it into somewhere you never wanted to leave. She loved the seasons and colors that accompanied them. She reveled in decorating her house for those holidays. Her other passion would easily be her family. Her children and grandchildren were constantly on her mind, and the subject of many discussions. She was an uncommonly kind person, with just the right amount of sass. Mom would drop whatever she was doing to take that phone call, or to talk to one of her kids that came by and needed a friendly ear. She loved music and movies. Not just the new ones, but also the music and movies of times gone by.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, who she now has joined for the eternities. Her memory and stories live on through her Children and grandchildren; Camee and Troy Thompson, Russell and Allison Lewis, Adam and Caitlin Witsman, Steven and Tipling Witsman, Lauren and LV Smith, and Aubrey Witsman, and 11 wonderful grandchildren.

Mom there aren’t words that can adequately describe how much you are loved and missed.
