Janet Louise Pedersen Krantz

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Janet Louise Pedersen Krantz passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on October 22, 2023.

Janet was born on March 7, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was raised in Holladay surrounded by orchards and spent her days climbing trees and helping her Daddy farm. She contracted polio at 11 and was hospitalized for seven months. Her family was able to visit through a window and eventually for 1 hour a week. She also met Shirley Temple during her stay at the hospital. Her polio would leave her “crooked” and she had her spine fused in 7th grade. She called her full body cast her “strapless evening gown,” high in the front, low in the back.

Her teenage years were filled with friends and plenty of dates.  She was named “Miss Holladay” in her youth. Janet graduated from Granite High School in 1952.

She married Robert Henry Krantz on April 7,1953 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They went on to raise their family in Holladay and spent their life on Wander Lane with fond memories of friends, neighbors, “club,” and many game nights.  They enjoyed traveling all over the world with friends and family.

Janet was creative and always working on something whether it was crochet or craft projects, scrapbooks and poems for the grandkids, or handmade dolls.

She will be remembered for her Christmas brunches, potato rolls, snickerdoodles, dangly earrings, birthday lunch dates, trips to the cabin, her determination, optimism, non-judgement, and most of all her kind heart.

Although Janet was faced with many challenges in her life including Polio in her youth, colon cancer in her early thirties, and Parkinson’s in her later years, she always maintained a determined and optimistic attitude and was never one to complain. She was a great example to us all.

She is survived by her four children, Randy (Susan), Sue Payne, Jeff (Mitzi) and Russ; 8 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Gertrude Pedersen, her husband Robert, her sisters Wanda and Doris, her granddaughter Heather, and many other friends and family members, all of whom we’re sure she’s having sweet reunions with.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Memorial Holladay~Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah 84117. Friends and family are invited to a viewing beginning at 10:30 AM. The interment will be at Memorial Holladay Cemetery, 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah 84117
