Janet Louise Schrader Knight
Age 84,
Passed away peacefully at her home in Centerville, Utah on March 4, 2025, surrounded by family.
She was born on August 11, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Wilford Henry and Gertrue Ethel Schrader. She married Lurlen Dale Knight in the Salt Lake Temple on November 4, 1959.
Janet grew up in Bountiful and spent her youth exploring the foothills with her brothers and friends and working in her family's fruit orchards. During college she carpooled to school with her future husband, Lurlen. After their carpooling ended, they began dating and eventually married, raising a family of six children together. Janet earned an associate degree as a Registered Nurse from Brigham Young University and practiced nursing for many years in Bountiful. She later transitioned to teaching nursing, developing the Certified Nursing Assistant program at the Davis Arts Technical College (DATC) .
Janet and her husband opened their doors to everyone, including foster parenting native americans in the Placement Program for eight years, welcoming students Ione, Lucy Manymules, Ferlin Husky Vandamir, and Brenda Tsossi into their home, hosting international dancers from China, the Philippines and the Ukraine. Janet and Lurlen shared the gospel with them, maintaining contact with them throughout their lives. Janet enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly during holidays, summer campouts, and birthdays.
Janet was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, serving in various roles. She especially enjoyed working with the youth and organized camps in her backyard, and at Piuta in the Uinta Mountains. Janet and her husband served a mission together in the Georgia Macon Mission, they later worked together in the Bountiful Temple.
Janet was a prolific reader and spent a considerable amount of time playing the piano. She frequently traveled with her husband in their truck and trailer. She kept regular contact with close friends and often met them for lunch. Her fruit cakes were a staple at Christmas time.
She is survived by her husband, Lurlen Dale Knight; children Lurlen Alonzo (Mary) Knight, Kandie (Bill) Kunzler, Lawrence (DeeAnn) Knight, Louis Daniel (Lori) Knight, Kristin (Mike) Jenks, Kari (Mark) Broderick; 35 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren; and brothers Donald LeRoy (Lois) Schrader, and Dwain Jesse (Evangiline) Schrader. She was preceded in death by her parents Wilford and Gertrue Schrader; siblings Wilford “Sonny” Paul Schrader and Darryl Robert Schrader; grandchildren Joshua Dale Knight and Matthew Joseph David Broderick; grandson-in-law Brian Meik; and foster Children Lucy Manymules, Ferlin Husky Vandimer, and Brenda Tsossi.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 15, at 12:00 noon at the Parish Heights Ward, 610 North Rowland Way.
Viewings will be on Friday, March 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Centerville Utah Stake, Center 950 North Main; and Saturday, March 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Parish Heights ward prior to the services. Interment will take place in the Memorial Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful.
