Janeal Neilson Andrus, our beloved mother, wife, grandma, great-grandma, and sister passed away on September 9, 2022. She was born on April 11, 1928 in Holladay, Utah to Joseph Clyde Neilson and Marguerite Olson Neilson. A child of the Great Depression, she learned at an early age the value of two things: hard work and a dollar. She graduated from Granite High School in 1946. While there, she served as Vice-president of the Junior class. Her circle of friends called themselves the Goobers and those friendships lasted a lifetime. Janeal is very nearly the last of the Goobers.
While working at Holladay Pharmacy, she met Alton “Bud” Andrus and they married on August 19, 1947. She lived briefly in Ogden early in her marriage, but otherwise spent the entirety of her life in Holladay, a place she loved. She had a variety of paying jobs throughout her life, but her passion was caring for her home and family. She loved decorating her home and kept a meticulous house. Dinner at 6:00 was on the table nightly. We enjoyed a yearly family vacation that was carefully budgeted and planned for. She encouraged her children to excel, fretted when they were late, and set an example of kindness, hard work, and careful money management that her posterity has adopted.
She is survived by her children Jolynn Reed (David), Mark, and Kirk (Julie); her grandchildren Joel Reed, Carrie Reed, Emily Reed, Brooke Andrus, Jenny Andrus (Kyle Palmer); and great-grandson Zach Gourley. She is also survived by her brothers Everett Neilson, Joseph Neilson, and David Neilson (Mercy). She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, her parents, and her brothers baby Ronald and LaRay “Pete” Neilson.
The family would like to thank Fernanda Leal and the other caregivers at Spring Gardens Care Center, and Lacey Roberts of Canyon Hospice who helped our mother through her difficult final days with dignity and gentle tenderness.
