James Young Jr.

August 30, 1953 — September 1, 2018

James Young Jr. “Cookie”
Born August 30, 1953 in Detroit, MI, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2018. Cookie’s passion was playing the guitar and music. Jimi Hendrix and Wes Montgomery were major influences in his musical career. He was an extremely talented guitar player whose talent was unmatched. His playing was effortless and natural. He brought beauty and love to everyone he knew by his guitar playing and even more beauty and love by his kind and loving heart. Dad loved his children and grandchildren immensely! He loved every opportunity he had to spend time with his family. He had wonderful relationships with all of his siblings and cherished each one of them, including the ones that are no longer with us.
Dad is survived by his girlfriend of over 30 years, Pattie Border, his children, Tim Young (Mary), Bianca Wirfs (Jake), Dara Young, Brandon Young- Lloyd and Colton Young, his siblings, Michael Young, Donald Young (Christina), Vickie Gore (Gregory) and Sean Young (Jen), and his very best friend and brother Preston Kofoed. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who thought the world of him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Clarice Reed (Shephard), his two brothers Howard Young and Kevin “Kep” Niles and his two sisters Shontay Young and Tammy Tripplett.
A Cebration of Life will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at the American Legion-Post 112, located at 320 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, UT from 5-7pm.
