Buddy passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023, in his home under the loving care of his wife, Gaylene Neil. He was born in American Fork, Utah to James Alma Neil and Evelyn Terry on September 16, 1950, and grew up in American Fork, Utah with 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed teaching the skills he learned. In 1969, he served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Lima, Peru. He earned an Associate Degree from LDS Business College, and retired as a computer operator for Salt Lake County.
In 1973, he met his wife, Gaylene Burr. They were married and sealed in 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they brought 6 children into this world. He loved spending time with his family and extended family, going on short day trips to the canyons, attending car shows, playing basketball and board games, and listening to music. He was a collector of many things, but his favorite collections were stereos, speakers, music, movies, model cars, rocks and geodes. He was also fascinated with South American history, and loved telling stories about his mission in Peru.
He passed away after years of battling diabetes and dementia. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Evelyn Neil, sister Marsha, and son Cameron.
He is survived by his wife Gaylene, his children Jason (Adrienne), Brian (Sherry), Corey, Tiffany (Karl), and Hillary (Bryce), 24 grandchildren, & siblings Julia, Denny, Arlene, Sheldon, Terry, and Darren.
The family would like to thank everyone from Intermountain Homecare and Hospice for their time and assistance with his care.
Funeral services will be held at the LDS meeting house at 7511 S 2700 W, West Jordan, UT 84084 on October 10, 2023 at 1:00pm. A viewing will take place at Memorial Redwood Mortuary 6500 S Redwood Rd, West Jordan, UT 84084 on October 9, 2023 from 6:00pm-9:00pm, and 1 hour prior to the funeral services at the church. Interment will follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
