James L. Welsh “Jim”

April 19, 1944 — June 3, 2021

James L. Welsh “Jim”, age 77 passed away on June 3, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born
on April 19, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Chrystal and Leon Welsh.
Jim grew up in Salt Lake City. He grew up fishing, hunting, and racing cars, but especially loved
fishing and enjoyed his solo fishing trips later in life. He graduated from East High School in
1962, lettering in band, baseball, and football. He served in the army during the Vietnam War
and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Jim married Sandra Daniels on April 24, 1971
and together they raised two children. They later divorced. He married Louise Jaeger on July 17,
1999. They later divorced but remained close friends. Jim loved baking and close friends and
family were often the recipients of his amazing chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies. He was a
member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and recently served as a worker at
the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples. He loved the people in his wards and branches and enjoyed
serving them in any way he could. He liked taking drives to Idaho and loved trail rides with
“Mav” in Southern Utah.
Jim is survived by his son Court (Meshelle) Welsh; Catherine “Riki” (Brock) Greenwood, both of
Woods Cross; five grandchildren, Luke, Seth, and Brooklyn Greenwood; Hunter (Kelsea) Welsh,
and Avery Welsh. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carleen Durantos.
Funeral services will be graveside at Coalville City Cemetery, 175 Industrial Park Road in
Coalville, Utah on Friday, June 11th at 11:00am. A viewing will be held Thursday, June 10th from
6 – 8:00pm at the LDS chapel located at 1148 W. 500 N. in Salt Lake City.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City for all
they did to help care for our dad these past few months. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the
