James Kalipetsis

December 8, 1932 — August 5, 2016

With the warm embrace of his family by his side, Jim passed away peacefully at his home in South Jordan on August 5, 2016.
Born December 8, 1932 to Stephanos “Steve” and Angelena “Angie” (Conti) Kalipetsis. The middle of three boys, he grew up in Butterfield Canyon surrounded by his extended Conti family. At age 13, the family moved to South Jordan, where he resided until his death.
Jim served in the Army during the Korean War in Alaska. On March 1, 1957, he married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Schmied. Together they raised 3 children. Jim went to work for Kennecott on the track gang in 1952. He worked his way up to become the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Operations, a position he loved. He retired after 45 years and somehow the mine has survived without him!
Jim will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and teasing nature, and his ingenuity and skill. He was everyone’s “go to guy.” Above all else he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather; a man whose family came first, always.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Ruth, his children, Scott (Kim), Lori (Jamie) Stewart, and Karie Kalipetsis, his grandchildren Jessica Rose, Jaime, Ryan, Randi and Kameron, and great-grandsons Carter and Austin.
Visitation will be Monday evening, August 8th, from 6-8pm, and 1 hour prior to the Celebration of Life, which will be held on Tuesday, August 9th at 12:00pm at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, located at 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association in Jim’s name. We need to stop this disease! Special thanks to the VA Care Center, The Marian Center, and Brighton Hospice.
“Gotta go now, I have a “tea” time.”
